© LANEIGE / Amorepacific press releaseIf you follow Korean makeup, you have seen lip tints everywhere. A tint is a liquid lip color, usually in a small tube with a doe-foot applicator, and it is made to leave color on the lips that stays after the shine wears off. Korean brands sell dozens of them, and the names can be confusing: water tint, glowy tint, fixing tint, velvet tint.
This guide sorts them by finish and points to four tints and one tinted balm on Amazon US, each with the seller its listing showed. Product details come from the Amazon pages we opened on October 14, 2026. We don't list prices.
How a tint is different from a lipstick
A lipstick sits on top of your lips as a layer of color. A tint is thinner and more liquid, so the color settles into the lips instead. That is why tints are often described as staining: as the glossy top layer wears off through the day, a softer wash of color stays behind. Most tints are also buildable. One layer gives a sheer color, and a second layer makes it deeper.
Tints are also how people do the soft gradient lip. Instead of lining the lips and filling them in, you dab color on the center of the lips and blend it outward with a fingertip, so the color fades softly toward the edges. The peripera listing below suggests exactly this.
Water and glossy tints
Water tints and glossy tints are the shiny end of the range. They go on wet and glassy, and the color sits under the shine.
rom&nd Glasting Water Tint is a water-based tint that goes on with a high shine and then sets into a lasting stain, according to the listing. The shade on this page is 14 Mauve Moon, a creamy mauve, sold by Rom&nd Beauty under the rom&nd brand store. The listing describes a lightweight, non-sticky formula and suggests this shade for light, cool and muted olive skin tones.
rom&nd Juicy Lasting Tint is one of the brand's signature lip products. This page is shade 23 Nucadamia, a nude red-brown. The listing describes a clear, extra-glossy finish inspired by the skins of fruit and a water-mixed formula that feels weightless on the lips.
If a tint feels like too much, LANEIGE Lip Glowy Balm is the gentle in-between: a sheer tinted lip balm in a pocket-size tube, here in the Berry shade, sold and shipped by Amazon.com under the LANEIGE brand store. The listing names murumuru butter and shea butter and describes a glossy, non-sticky finish. It won't stain the way a tint does, so reapply it through the day.
Matte and velvet tints
Matte and velvet tints dry down instead of staying wet. They feel lighter than a classic matte lipstick, and they are the ones to pick if you don't want to think about your lips for a few hours.
ETUDE Fixing Tint has a soft matte finish that ETUDE calls hydro-matte. This listing is shade #05 Midnight Mauve, sold by ETUDE Official. The listing describes a light layer of color that sets to a comfortable finish and is made to stay on through eating and drinking without smudging. Start in the center of the lips; a second layer gives a deeper color.
peripera Ink the Velvet is the brand's velvet-finish tint. This listing is shade 017 Rosy Nude, sold by CLUBCLIO under the Peripera brand store. The listing describes a creamy mousse texture that dries to a soft matte finish, names jojoba oil, hyaluronic acid and marine collagen in the formula, and says it can be used on lips and cheeks.
How to choose your first tint
Start with the finish you already like. If you wear lip gloss, try a water or glossy tint, or the tinted balm. If you usually reach for a matte lipstick, try a fixing or velvet tint. Then pick a shade close to your natural lip color, a little deeper, so it works every day. Muted pinks, mauves and nude browns are a safe first choice.
Two practical notes. First, tints are made to stay, so keep a cleansing oil or balm nearby to take them off at night. Second, glossy shades are partly seasonal. In October, Hwahae, the Korean ingredient and review service, reported that product views of lip tints on its global site fell 42% from late September, while views of creams fell far less. If you buy one now, a deeper berry or mauve shade will carry you through fall and winter.
